Ottella Lugana Molceo Riserva DOCG
Almost always a sure bet for three glasses in the Gambero Rosso guide. The grapes come from the Ottella vineyards in San Benedetto, where the soils are rich in white clay – an ideal foundation for Trebbiano di Lugana grapes. Only the very best grapes go into the Molceo. The grapes hang on the vine until the very end and are harvested only in the second or third pass. Then comes the extra-long aging on the lees before the Italian white wine is bottled. Approximately 25% matures in large wooden casks and barriques, the rest in stainless steel tanks. This way, the oak influences the Riserva without dominating it.
